I roll out of bed and head into the kitchen to make some coffee. After I turn the Keurig on, I stretch, feeling the lingering comfort from last night's conversation with Billie in my soul. A slight smile overtakes me lips just as my gaze lands on a piece of paper on the floor that I’m almost certain wasn't there last night.

My smile fades instantly as I reach for it, unfolding the crisp sheet to reveal its message: “Miss you Annie.”

Though unsigned, I know from ‘Annie’ that it’s from Gabe. He’s the only one who has ever called me that in my life. I never liked that nickname but telling him how much I wished he wouldn’t call me that only encouraged him to keep doing it. The vulnerability I felt yesterday comes crashing back down on me, heavier than ever.

Tears prick at the corners of my eyes as I drop the note, my entire body trembling. Billie's reassurances feel far away now, swallowed up by this new evidence that Gabe is back and watching me.

I wipe away the tears before they can fall.

I need help.

Determination fills me as I make the decision to go to the police, hoping they can do something to put my mind at ease.

With a deep breath, I pick up my phone and call the non-emergency number. After briefly explaining the situation, I'm given an appointment at the station later that morning.

As I prepare to leave, my thoughts drift to Hendrix and how much I want him by my side right now, but the embarrassment still lingers from our last encounter, and I can't help but wonder if he would even want to be involved in this mess that seems to be following me like a dark cloud.

Maybe I should leave town again. If the police can’t help me, that may be my only option.
